Frequently Asked Questions

Do you buy used books?

No, we do not buy books.

We are currently only accepting donations of books that meet the criteria below at this time.

We plan to accept books for store credit in the future - watch our social media for updates.

Why are you limiting what you accept?

We love the fact that our community wants to trade books with us. Sounds like a win-win, doesn’t it?! However, we are newly re-opened, and still working our way through the stores existing inventory. We have limited space for storage and are only able to take in things we can immediately put on the shelves.

We cannot take in estates or do estate visits at this time.

If you have large donations, or donations that do not meet our criteria below, please consider donating to the AAUW for their next book sale or contacting your closest library to see if they are accepting donations.

What types of books will you take?

There are some things we are always looking to add to the store. If you are unsure, you can always call or email us before stopping in.

  • Newer fiction and non-fiction in all formats

  • Authors and books we consistently accept: #booktok popular, Classics in good condition, best sellers, books currently being adapted for TV or movies.

  • All BIPOC authors (fiction/nonfiction) and subject matter

  • All LGBTQIA+ authors (fiction/nonfiction) and subject matter

  • Books in the languages of the West Side (such as Arabic, Karen, Somali, Nepali, Farsi, Bengali).

  • Teen, Children’s and YA: #booktok popular, Classics in good condition, best sellers, books currently being adapted for TV or movies.

Guidelines and what we do not accept

  • Books must be free from smoke, water damage and mold. Please check your donations, especially if they have been in the basement or storage for a long period of time.

  • We may decline books by super popular authors such as Grisham, Patterson, or Evanovich depending on our current inventory.

  • We do not accept severely yellowed paperbacks, books with damaged spines or loose pages, books with excessive highlighting or annotations. We also do accept hardcovers without dust jackets unless they were published that way.

  • Please do not leave boxes on our doorstep. This exposes the books to the elements and risks us having to dispose of your donations.

  • We WILL NEVER accept encyclopedia sets or individual volumes, reference manuals, magazines, Readers Digest condensed books, coloring books, school workbooks, textbooks, Guinness record books, annual reviews, audiobooks on CDs, DVDs, or VHS.

Do you offer book appraisal?

No, we are not certified for this and have no intention of being.

I’m a local author. Will you sell my books?

We love our local authors, but at this time we do not sell any new publications and do not accept any commissions.

Can my book club meet there?

Of course you can! We are a smaller space, but are happy to try and accommodate your book club. Weather permitting we have our patio available. Please reach out by email to discuss how we can work together.

Are you hiring?

We are not hiring. We are a small operation. To create the community environment we envision and to ensure we can stay afloat, we wear both hats as owners and employees.
